National Lotteries Commission opens up application process for Western Cape sporting projects
The DA in the Western Cape is pleased with the turnout of organisations that presented their corporate responsibility programmes to the Standing Committee on Cultural Affairs and Sport at the Western Cape Provincial Parliament today.
It was revealed that the National Lotteries Commission opened up the application process for Western Cape sporting projects to apply to receive of their Miscellaneous Funds, which amounts to R30 million.
Organisations including the National Lotteries Commission led by their Chairperson Prof Alfred Nevhutanda and Ms Thabang Charlotte Mampane indicated that they achieve their goals by partnering with a number of NGO’s, Educational Institutions, Non-profit Companies as well as public Benefit Trusts. The Commission identifies communities that need assistance and proactively locates an NGO to facilitate the process and ensure the community benefits from each initiative.
Several other organisations also gave input to the committee in this regard, these include the South African Institute for Drug Free Sport (SAIDS) that briefed the committee on high performance drugs/Steroids in Schools and what they are doing to combat it. South African Breweries (SAB) took the committee through their Corporate Social Investment Policy and their success stories.
We applaud the organisations for their input and call on more companies to do the same and play their part in creating functioning societies. We believe that all businesses have a key role to play in helping communities develop, particularly through sport.
We urge more businesses to plough back into the communities as it gives the youth a fighting chance against all the social ills facing them.
Applications for the Miscellaneous Funds can be sent to the following address and they will be attended to in the order of receipt.
