At the commemoration of the 23 years since the tragic death of Amy Biehl the South African Amy Biehl Foundation announced a name change and will in future be known as the Amy Foundation.

With commitments in the USA it became increasingly difficult for Linda Biehl to visit regularly and to maintain a hands - on approach. Zach Biehl wrote in a recent Facebook post:  “’As we say good bye to that chapter the transition is easier knowing that thousands of young people have been impacted so greatly through Amy’s legacy and the work of my parents along with tremendous members of the ABFT staff. There is no doubt that Amy’s magic has worked its wonders for so many. ”

The Amy Biehl Foundation US will continue with its work however its focus will be different and to avoid confusion it was decided to re-launch the SA Foundation with a new look and feel.

The focus of the Amy Foundation is unchanged. As a fully South African NPO Amy Biehl’s legacy and vision remains and sees the Foundation focussing on after school programmes to protect, guide and shape our youth as well as  continuing the Skills Development programme which helps to addresses unemployment in the Western Cape.

The Amy Foundation, under the inspired leadership of Kevin Chaplin, continues in its capacity of upholding the vision that brought Amy to SA. With its re-naming the ABF marks a new chapter in its existence with the commitment to changing lives enhanced by the various programmes initiated under Kevin’s leadership.

The name AMY is synonymous with caring, education, safety and giving and this will continue in the way its benefactors and beneficiaries have grown to expect. While acknowledging the tragic event 23 years ago as part of our history it has also been a catalyst for change and forgiveness that will continue into the future.
