HospiceWits honours those who were a beacon of hope and strength

HospiceWits, an NPO providing palliative care to patients and families affected by a life limiting illness, announced that it will host its annual Tree of Lights event on the 26 November 2018 at the Johannesburg Zoo. The event, now in its 10th year, aims to raise funds for HospiceWits as well as those who have lost their lives to a terminal illness in a befitting way.

Says, Jacqui Kaye, MD at HospiceWits: “The experience of losing a loved one to a life limiting illness is emotionally, and spiritually challenging, and as an organisation that provides palliative care to those facing life threatening illnesses, we have a deep understanding and appreciation for these emotions. It is for this reason, that every year we host our annual Tree of Lights event to be able to give those who have mourned the loss of a loved one, a moment to celebrate their memory.”

As part of this initiative, HospiceWits will offer people the option of purchasing virtual or actual globes, either as an individual or as a corporate donation. Those purchasing virtual globes can also write a message for their loved ones – which will then be shared on the Tree of Lights’ website. The physical globes will be placed on the Tree of Light until the 29th November, during the annual event, where attendees can also enjoy a picnic with family and friends on the day. Entrance is free from 16:30 on the day.

HospiceWits has various globe options available for the following prices:

·         String of lights: R15 000
·         Branch on our tree: R5 250
·         Halo of light: R1 750
·         Bright star: R7 000
·         Orb: R3 500
·         Single globe: R350

“Last year we lit 2 000 globes on the night, and this year we hope to increase this number substantially, as this will be able to help us to continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients that are not in a position to pay for the services we render,” concludes Kaye.
