Absa continues to Keep Cape Town Warm

Categories: COMPANY NEWS , Housing & Living Conditions
Absa partners with Good Hope FM for annual Keep Cape Town Warm Campaign.

This is the fourth year that the two organisations have joined forces. The Absa Western Cape leadership team braved the icy cold, wet and windy conditions to kick off the campaign at the first outside broadcast held in Kuils River on 6 June 2012.

Many families are left destitute and without shelter and fall prey to the harsh weather experienced during the winter months. Most of us have the comfort of our cosy homes, heaters, electric blankets, warm clothing and hot meals whereas the poor and homeless have to settle for the bare minimum. Some of our people hardly ever have a meal to fill their tummies, warm clothing or a blanket to bring them some comfort.

At Absa, we feel it is essential to continue our partnerships with various organisations across the country, like Good Hope FM, to ensure that we provide some of these very basic needs. Being part of the Keep Cape Town Warm initiative has given us an excellent opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to bring about positive change and comfort to the communities in which we live and operate.

Absa is more than a just a financial institution. Corporate Social Investment in Absa is the way business supports communities and employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and skills and fundraise toward campaigns such as Keep Cape Town Warm.

In 2011, Capetonians donated more than 3,000 blankets, 7,300 items of clothing and 550 units of canned food and R9,000 cash toward this worthy initiative.

“We see caring for our communities is as important to us as being great bankers. In fact, we see the two as being interlinked. We believe by caring for our neighbours, we develop a better appreciation for people. It is important for us to make an ongoing and meaningful difference”, says Karen Barry.

The following outside broadcasts will be held across the Mother City:
Saturday, 21 July, Blue Route Mall, Tokai
Wednesday, 25 July, ACSA, Cape Town International Airport
Saturday, 28 July, Canal Walk, Century City

Donations may be dropped off at any Absa branch or outside broadcast location.
