Act Now!

The Stats:

  •     56% of women murdered in 2009 were murdered by an intimate partner
  •     Prevalence estimates of rape in SA are between 12% - 28% of women ever reporting being raped in their lifetime
  •     Between 28% - 37% of men report having raped a woman
  •     Most men who rape do so for the first time in as a teenager and almost all men who ever rape do so by their mid-20's

Speak out against woman and child abuse.

Encourage silent female victims to talk about abuse and ensure that they get help.
Report child abuse to the police.
Encourage children to report bully behaviour to school authorities.
Men and boys are encouraged to talk about abuse and actively discourage abusive behaviour.
Seek help if you are emotionally, physically or sexually abusive to your partner and/or children.
Talk to friends, relatives and colleagues to take a stand against abuse of women and children.
Try and understand how your own attitudes and actions might perpetuate sexism and violence.

Together, we can take action to support the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign.
