The Cape Town Science Centre appreciates the value of our teachers and invites you to participate in our term one FREE teacher events. “You can’t put learners first if you put teachers last”.

All teachers who attend any of these events will receive an Annual Teachers Pass (free entry to the CTSC for the year). Join us and be part of the #MyCTSC campaign!

TEACHERS OPEN DAY
Saturday, 9 February 2019 | 10:00 - 13:00
An opportunity to discover or re-discover the centre, meet the team and receive our revitalised Education Programme for 2019 - offering new workshops and addressing new and exciting areas of learning. Mr Brian Schreuder, the WCED Superintendent-General (Head of Education), will be the guest speaker on the day.

LUCKY DRAW - One teacher/school will walk away with a voucher to bring 60 learners to the Cape Town Science Centre for FREE during 2019. This prize includes a facilitated interactive curriculum related school group visit as well as transport on the day of the visit.

TEACHER ENRICHMENT WORKSHOPS
Supported by the Western Cape Education Department
You can choose one of the following workshops to attend on each day.

SATURDAY, 16 FEBRUARY (10:00 - 13:00)
• Workshop 1: Teaching 2.0 – Using tech in the classroom (Grade 8 - 12)
• Workshop 2: STEM Toys from Trash (All Grades)
• Workshop 3: CAPS Science Pracs Made Simple (Grade 10 - 12)
• Workshop 4: Getting to grips with Coding – Train the Trainer - Specifically for teachers proficient in SCRATCH who now want to learn SNAP – this is a 2hour session and teacher welcome to stay on to continue learning (All Grades)

SATURDAY, 23 FEBRUARY (10:00 - 13:00)
• Workshop 1: Making Maths Meaningful (All Grades)
• Workshop 2: Life Science Made Practical (Grade 4 - 9)
• Workshop 3: Essential Skills – Getting to Grips with Graphs (Grade 10 - 12)
• Workshop 4: Getting to grips with Coding – Train the Trainer - SCRATCH, suitable for beginners. (All Grades)

CLASSROOM OF THE FUTURE INDABA
Supported by the Western Cape Education Department & Microsoft

Back by popular demand, you are invited to the third annual CLASSROOM OF THE FUTURE INDABA at the Cape Town Science Centre. It is all free once again - MAHALA at this INDABA for teachers. This year the Indaba will be workshop based with a few presentations. A detailed programme will be sent soon. Teachers are invited from all grades and from all schools in the Western Cape. You can look forward to learning more about Minecraft and generally upskilling yourself on Microsoft Office 365 Education, which is freely available to All WCED Schools. Learn how to use tools such as One Note, Sway, Forms and others. Please indicate as soon as possible what YOU would like to learn more of in relation to Microsoft Office 365, as we would like to support you!

  • All teachers attending events at the Cape Town Science Centre (CTSC) will receive a Teacher Pass which gives you FREE access to the CTSC for the whole year.
  • There is NO FEE to attend any of these events and bookings are on a first come first served basis.
  • Resources will be available for you to take back to your school.
  • Light refreshments will be served at all events.
