Image: WOOLWORTHS, SUSTAINABILTY INSTITUTE AND SPIER LAUNCH COMMUNITY LEARNING FARM It will involve the training and development of young farmers to address local youth unemployment and land reform issues.

Woolworths has joined hands with its supplier, Spier wine farm; the Sustainability Institute and its AgroEcology Academy to launch the Living Soils Community Learning Farm, in the Lynedoch valley of the Stellenbosch Winelands.  The partners have agreed to a three-year pilot project that aims to establish a learning farm that demonstrates ecologically-restorative methods to grow nutrient-rich foods to improve community food security.   A critical aspect of the project is that through the AgroEcology Academy   Read More...

South Africa’s potential to develop its green economy is being threatened by people and companies who undermine the country’s environmental laws and regulations, Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa said.

The latest report on the efforts of the Green Scorpions to fight these threats in the 2013-14 financial year showed increases in the number of criminal dockets registered and those handed over to the National Prosecuting Authority, with a smaller increase in the number of convictions secured.   Read More...
