DURBAN, 13 April 2015 – At least 93 people were trafficked into and within South Africa over the 12 month period from January to December 2014 for unjust purposes ranging from sexual exploitation to forced labour, forced marriage and body part trafficking. On Saturday 28th March we had 19 ex-offenders come from all over Cape Town to play a soccer match against a Message Trust selected team. The game was a fantastic spectacle and ended up as a 6-6 draw!

The latest crime stats have much to concern us! The downward trend of the last five to ten years seems to be grinding to a halt! The stabilising of the crime levels, albeit at a high level, seems to have reversed – violent crimes such as murder, attempted murder, aggravated robberies show increases!  A total of 650 more murders than before! The National Institute for Crime Prevention and the Reintegration of Offenders (NICRO) has been rendering offender reintegration services since 1910.
One of our services is non-custodial sentencing (NCS), where an offender is sentenced to receive mandatory behavioural services in the community. This is an alternative to serving the sentence in prison.  NCS is a better option for lower risk offenders, as it keeps them out of jail and away from higher risk offenders.
