Recovery is not a journey that can be taken alone.                    DONATE

Friends rely on the support of community partners who work with us to make recovery possible.

Although we have approximately 60 volunteers who provide services “free” to our beneficiaries, if the programme is going to be safe and effective, we need skilled staff to ensure that the right people are in the right place and making a meaningful impact.

How can you make recovery possible?

  • Financial donations can be made by EFT or through Givengain
  • Volunteer your time:  Whether you have skills or not, we’d love to chat to you if you have time to offer.
  • We are always in needs of goods for our projects – whether it be supplies for our recovery groups, gifts for service users for Christmas  or second hand goods for our Friendly Shop – we take almost anything!
  • Leave a lasting memory by remembering the Friends of Valkenberg Trust in your will.
  • Join our superbly run annual charity Golf Day (April)

How can we help you?

  • As a registered NPO we can offer a Sec18A tax certificate on donations, to ease your tax burden.
  • Need BBBEE points?  More than 75% of our beneficiaries are black and the majority have a psychiatric disability.  Donations may attract BBBEE points, typically in the area of Socio-economic Development.
  • Bring a corporate team and help out for a bit of team building with a conscience or dress up with your team for some Casual Day team spirit (September).
  • Take a “mental health day “-  join our annual charity golf day (April)  for a bit of time our or some corporate relationship building.

Message from the Valkenberg CEO:

2015/2016 has been another year of working closely with the Friends and we have partnered on a few new projects this year. As our relationship is maturing we have taken on increasingly more challenging projects, like the staff cafeteria and the tuckshop, the latter has been a more sustainable project to jointly pursue.  Valkenberg Management and the Staff at Valkenberg Hospital appreciates the opportunity to learn and grow alongside this supportive relationship with have with Friends.

The critical success factor is our joint understanding, that our staff and clients come first - it is amazing how this assists with simplifying the detail and processes.

We are honoured to have a team of such committed individuals under the leadership and tutelage of Sandra Matthews as the Office Manager and Prof. Robertson as the Chair of the Friends. Friends run a small but efficient office and manage close to 100 volunteers whose goal is to create opportunities for development, help us as a hospital to improve the comfort for our patients and staff and bring joy to the lives of those afflicted by mental illness.

We thank you for this and we hope that we continue to grow and have a long successful future advocating for the needs of those who live with a mental illness.
