About Us

The President’s Award for Youth Empowerment

Vision

Our vision is to become the self-development programme of choice for young people in South Africa.

Mission

Our mission, with the assistance of adult volunteer leaders, is to empower young people between the ages of 14 and 25, by providing a balanced, non-competitive framework for self-development that will increase their self-esteem and enhance their capacity to achieve in whatever context they find themselves: enabling them to become responsible active citizens within their communities.

What is The President's Award all about

IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU(TH)

The President’s Award for Youth Empowerment is part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.  It is an exciting personal  challenge for young people between the ages of 14 and 24. It started in the United Kingdom in 1956 and was first available in South Africa in 1983.  There are over 14,300 active participants in the country from schools, prisons, community youth groups and children’s homes. German educationalist Kurt Hahn, who conceptualised the Award programme, said: “When the mind is stretched by new experiences it can never return to its former dimensions.”
