Accelerate Cape Town is a business leadership organisation representing top-tier corporate business in the Cape Town city region. We provide a forum for corporate business to connect and catalyse action to position Cape Town for growing economic success as a globally recognised business destination in Africa.

 

Our vision is to become the key vehicle that will help big businesses to play a leading role in forming a common 2030 Vision, in identifying key levers of change and in turning great ideas into tangible projects.
Our vision is to to create "the Southern Tiger"- the Cape as an iconic, internationally competitive region characterised by inclusive, sustainable economic growth.

Thought leadership


We develop leading global thinking on city and regional development, particularly learning from medium-sized, second cities that are recognised internationally as successful.

Networking


We act as a central point where people know that they can be put in touch with other leaders. We regularly bring together local leaders of business, government, labour, education, community and state-owned enterprises.

Influencing


We use the thinking that we develop and the networks that we create to influence the leaders of business, government and other influential individuals and groups.

Mobilising


We are driven to ensure that the ideas we develop, the networking we do and the influence we exert leads towards the implementation of projects by our partners. In particular, we encourage the formation of public private partnerships that advance the goal of achieving the long-term vision.

 

MANAGEMENT



Accelerate Cape Town is professionally managed by an extremely experienced board that takes overall responsibility for the organisation. Its role is to exercise leadership and sound judgment in directing the organisation to achieve continued growth and to act in the best interests of members.

COMMUNITY WORK IN SOUTH AFRICA

 

HIV South Africa (HIVSA)

 

HIVSA’s (www.hivsa.com) Home-Based care program reaches approximately 30 community based organizations that provide free services to a rotating population of approximately 3,500 households at any given time in greater Johannesburg, South Africa. With financial and product support from Johnson & Johnson, HIVSA provides training and a wide variety of Johnson & Johnson health care products to volunteers who provide care and social support to HIV patients in their homes.

 

 

Hospital Leaders Programme (HLP)

 

The HIP was established in partnership with the Graduate School of Business , UCT, to develop Leadership and management skills throughout the South African health care industry. Participants include government officials, hospital administrators, doctors, nurses, and hospital project leaders, all of whom are given a solid grounding in functional areas of management and insight into critical issues facing their organizations. This leadership development programme is a mirror of similar Johnson & Johnson programmes at five other internationally recognized universities in Europe, South America, South East Asia, and the United States.

 

International Humana People to People Movement – Total control of the Epidemic (TCE)

 

Driven by it’s grassroots, door-to-door TCE campaign, the International Humana People to People Movement trains field representatives to systematically educate every person in high-risk South African communities about HIV/AIDS. Through 1:1 sessions and group gatherings, trainers offer guidance on assessing risk factors and developing individualized plans for local residents to take control of their health and prevent the spread of the disease. The Johnson & Johnson Burn Treatment Centre at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital - Soweto

 

The Johnson & Johnson Burn Treatment Centre at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital-Soweto is a state-of-the-art unit that treats patients with serious and complicated burns, ultimately reducing the mortality rates among critically injured patients. Johnson & Johnson built the facility in 1990 as a treatment and teaching center. The Johnson & Johnson Burn Treatment Centre has 24 beds for adults and 26 beds for children, an operating room, and multi-disciplinary facilities for the treatment of serious and complicated burns. The level of care varies by patient needs, and can include nutritional support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and psychiatric treatment. Johnson & Johnson supports the facility with essential equipment, products, and education for management and medical personnel. The Management Development Institute (MDI)

 

The MDI, a oartnership with the African Medical Research Foundation (AMREF), the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), The University of Cape Town – Graduate School of Business and UCLA Anderson, is an intensive management program for leaders of organizations providing care, treatment, support, and prevention to those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS to improve the quantity and quality of their services. The program. held annually in Kenya, Ghana, and Cape Town is taught by faculty from AMREF, GIMPA, UCLA and The University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business who have been recruited through the Global Business Schools Network. Since the program began, 506 students from 27 countries have graduated.

 

mothers2mothers (m2m)

 

m2m (www.m2m.org) provides education for HIV-positive pregnant women to prevent mother-to-child transmission of the disease, and trains new HIV-positive mothers to mentor others. Mentor Mothers provide pregnant women who are HIV-positive with education on treatment, nutrition, and feeding with formula, and how to combat stigma and societal pressures. Mentors are paid, helping them to gain financial independence. Johnson & Johnson supports m2m sites in Lesotho, Malawi, South Africa, and Swaziland where thousands of pregnant women have been reached with services to prevent mother-to-child transmission.

 

 

 

Perinatal Health Consortium

 

Johnson & Johnson is partnering with the University of Witwatersrand (The Charlotte Maxeke hospital, Johannesburg) and the Gauteng Department of Health to deliver a training program to strengthen intervention skills of maternal and neonatal health care providers in the Gauteng Province, South Africa. The purpose of the training is to reduce newborn deaths and disabilities in the region. The training includes a neonatal resuscitation program for all those involved in newborn deliveries and immediate care after birth, and a fetal monitoring skills enhancement programme for midwives and physicians working in obstetrics. Since 2007, 118 courses have been offered reaching over 3,600 health care providers.

 

PlaySoccer

 

The PlaySoccer (www.playsoccer-nonprofit.org) grassroots community program aims to make the world a better place for children and youth who master and enjoy playing soccer while learning health, physical, and social development life skills. Local and international volunteers are trained as instructors for the programme. The programme is designed to serve disadvantaged communities with the most vulnerable children and the least resources. Johnson & Johnson supports PlaySoccer’s efforts in and around Johannesburg.

 

SOS Children’s Villages (SOS)

 

SOS (www.sos-usa.org) is the world’s largest organization dedicated to the care of orphaned and abandoned children, and to the prevention of those conditions that create abandonment. The organization lives by four tenets:
that each child deserves a mother, a home, a family and a connection to community.

SOS has 500 Children’s Villages in 132 countries. It serves the needs of other impoverished families through its schools, medical facilities, and vocational training centers. SOS also takes the lead in research and advocacy related to the rights of a child. Johnson & Johnson provides family strengthening projects and general support for SOS in South Africa.

 

Township Patterns Cape Town

 

Johnson & Johnsort partners with Township Patterns - Cape Town to provide financial support and training for women that equips them to establish themselves as officially registered sewing co-operatives. The sewing co-operatives take on orders to produce fair-trade bags which come from three sustainable sources — retail, corporate and fashion. Proceeds from the sale of the bags go back into supporting the co-operatives and providing a steady income for the women and their families.

 

 

 

TSiBA - Cape Town

 

TS1BA is a private provider of Higher Education in business, offering a unique Foundation Year Certificate in Business Administration followed by an enriched Bachelor in Business Administration focused on Entrepreneurial Leadership. Johnson & Johnson partners with the organization to specifically target scholars and potential students that would otherwise not have access to tertiary level education, by offering successful applicants full tuition scholarships.
