Huge celebration as we launch our 1,000th infrastructure facility!
Author: Breadline Africa
Five years ago, we set a big target – to increase our infrastructure tally of just over 400 to 1,000, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our founding.
Thanks to your generosity and that of all of the dedicated Breadline Africa donors though the years, on 17 February 2023, we achieved our goal, placing our 1,000th infrastructure facility at Pooh Bear Educare in Delft, Cape Town!
The pre-school received three new classrooms and a jungle gym, completing a process that began in 2018, when Pooh Bear Educare received a classroom, kitchen and toilet. This was made possible through our partnership with GROW Educare and with funding from MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet. The school has grown from fewer than 40 children to 130 with a huge waiting list, to boot – and this would not have been possible without the infrastructure we provided.
The centre is a great example of the type of project we like to support, and we love to see the principals making the most of the opportunity that our structures provide – enabling growth and development.
Principal, Michelle Davids shared what it took to establish and grow Pooh Bear Educare over more than a decade and thanked Breadline Africa and its donors for the new classrooms and colourful play area. Michelle’s dedication and hard work, along with that of her team, have brought the school to the impressive standard that it is today and it is testament to her commitment to the children of the community of Delft. Well done, Michelle – may you continue to transform the lives of the children in your care!
But this was just one of our projects to launch in February – we also launched a prefabricated classroom at Nompumelelo Educare Centre in Philippi East, kitchen and toilet facilities at Zanokhanyo in Khayelitsha, and Bokamoso Crèche and Pre-School in Klipgat, Gauteng received two classrooms on Monday, 27 February 2023 – what a great way to start the week!
As proud as we are of our 1,000th infrastructure placement, there is so much still to be done and Sinenjongo Pre-school in Ntlezi, Eastern Cape is a great example of this. It is one of three pre-schools in need of a weatherproof, safe classroom and hygienic toilet facilities. Currently each of these facilities only has one classroom, and none are in good condition. There are also no toilets, which poses a health risk for the little ones.
Will you help us to help these schools by making a donation to support their infrastructure needs? Your life-changing gift is just a few mouse-clicks away! Click here to visit our fundraising page and open new doors for the children of the Eastern Cape.
Thank you for your support - we cannot do it without you!
