A sponsor partnership between the Foundation of fruit export agent, Capespan and the shipping line, Safmarine, recently made the Siphila Sonke Trust in Grabouw the proud owners of a converted 12-metre freight container, consisting of two administrative/storage areas and a large room for craft and skills training.

Delegates and senior management of Safmarine, Capespan and Siphila Sonke gathered at the Imizamo church site in Xola Naledi , Pineview, Grabouw, to celebrate the successful collaboration between business, non-government and social community development organisations when the customised container was officially handed over to Siphila Sonke for their exclusive use, on 3 June 2010.

Elizabeth Downes, with the pillows, blankets and soft-toys donated by Capespan staff to Siphila Sonke in one of the container's store rooms.

Siphila Sonke is a community based Non Profit Organisation, which provides basic care, nutritional, emotional and spiritual support, with two staff members and the help of volunteers, to those most in need in the Grabouw informal and other lower socio-economic settlement areas. This rural community is mostly reliant on the limited seasonal work opportunities provided by the local deciduous fruit export industry.

Capespan Pome fruit Product Specialist, Elizabeth Downes identified Siphila Sonke for their valuable service to the Grabouw community and based on their alignment with the social and health development goals of the Capespan Foundation.André Visser even climbed Kilimanjaro as part of a Safmarine staff fund-raising initiative towards the container's cost.
