Launch Of Parent Text - Making Family Strengthening And Postive Parenting Accessible To All

This will be the first time that the evidence-informed programmes, Parenting for Lifelong Health will be launched and managed as Parent Text in South Africa.

Clowns Without Borders South Africa (CWBSA), Department of Social Development , the Universities of Cape Town and Oxford, Parenting for Lifelong Health (PLH), and UNICEF South Africa will launch Parent Text on the ……of June 2022 at ……, a webinar will be organised to introduce and demonstrate the new intervention.

 

Usually, the Parenting for Lifelong Health programmes are run through weekly face-to-face group meetings of parents, caregivers, and adolescents, however, during the Covid19 pandemic, 3 digital interventions were developed and are currently being pilot tested to reach wider audiences of families in South Africa and around the world.  


CWBSA’s overall goal is development and delivery of creative and facilitation interventions in South Africa and the continent. The organisation has reached over 500 000 children and caregivers since 2007, providing psychosocial support and violence prevention tools through theatre, play, capacity building and laughter.

 

CWBSA is an implementor of the Parenting for Lifelong Health programmes that contribute to the reduction of child maltreatment and improving relationships between parents, caregivers, children, and youth through social learning and positive parenting techniques. Parenting for Lifelong Health has been implemented all over South Africa with the Department of Social Development, UNICEF South Africa, and non-profit organisations, as well as over 20 countries worldwide. It is part of the Global Parenting Initiative, a network of academics, international agencies and non-governmental organisations providing and scaling up free, accessible, evidence-based, parenting support.

 

“The COVID19 pandemic resulted in the development of fast innovative interventions through the Universities of Oxford and Cape Town with this final launch of Parent Text, the 3rd major intervention including ParentChat and ParentApp, whereby academics, international agencies, non-governmental organisations, government, tech developers, performers and translators have collaborated to respond to families’ needs,” mentions Co-Director, Suzan Eriksson, Co- Director. “CWBSA has had the privilege to contribute to this work and we are excited to see how South African parents and caregivers will relate to and use parenting support through the Parent Text in their own lives and with their friends, families and neighbours.”
