Tu B’Shvat is a Jewish holiday known as the New Year for Trees. Occurring on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat, the meaning and ritual of the day has undergone many iterations and today is used to raise awareness around ecological issues and to plant trees in celebration.


The holiday has been open to reinterpretation over time, at different points in history it was the date for marking the age of trees; Jewish mysticism used the ‘Tree of Life’ as a reflective practice. Today Tu B’Shvat has come to be a sort of Jewish Earth Day - a Jewish environmental holiday around which to raise awareness about the climate crisis.    
 

Our local speakers and environmentalists will discuss the following topics:

�� Investing in the environment to build resilient communities
�� Ecosystem restoration in the context of the global south
�� Tree planting to restore ecosystems
�� The importance of urban greening and food gardening
�� Activating communities and empowering individuals to make a difference

In addition, Greenpop & Mensch are raising funds to plant 1,000 trees in honour of Tu B’Shvat 2021.
