We’ve achieved 90% and now we are aiming for 100%

This month, we achieved an incredible milestone – all thanks to your committed support. On 10 October, we launched our 900th unit at Nobuntu Early Childhood Development and Disability Centre in Atlantis.
Looking back, this is a journey spanning almost three decades and we have just one year left to reach our ambitious target of 1,000 units to celebrate our 30th anniversary in 2023! (If you would like to help us reach this target by donating a structure, please pop our director, Marion Wagner an email – director@breadlineafrica.org!)
Nobuntu was struggling to accommodate all of the children during Covid-19 and only half of the 80 children could attend school on a given day. Once the regulations were lifted, it was clear that the children could not be crammed back into the space … and that was when Breadline Africa's generous donors swung into action, providing a new 36m² prefabricated classroom with toilet facilities and a jungle gym for the children.
At the launch event, City of Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said: “This classroom will allow children living with disabilities an opportunity to attend a really great foundation phase learning opportunity.”
As 2022 draws to a close, we look forward to one of the most rewarding events of the year – the Seaside Outing. Every November, over four days, we take busloads of children from the communities that we work with on an unforgettable trip to the beach. Many of these youngsters are being raised by a single mom or granny working hard to make ends meet and in spite of living a short drive away, have never seen the ocean!
We will collect the children in buses and provide a T-shirt, lunch and snacks, along with lashings of sunscreen and loads of games to play. And just to end this special day with a bang, the children get a surprise visit from the jolly man in a red suit! Father Christmas brings each child a gift bag consisting of a toy, sweet pack and toiletry pack. And then the tired little ones are put back on the bus and make their way home – full of amazing memories and tasty sweeties!
